Protecting people from fake medicines

Did you know that one in ten medicines traded in the world are falsified?

Falsified medicines are criminal imitations of approved medicines, and in the worst case they can be life-threatening. In Norway, we are spared from most falsifications, but we have to be careful.

A network of databases has been created in Europe with a central database, the EU HUB, which contains information on packages for prescription medicines.

Pharmacies and wholesalers have invested in IT-systems and new equipment, because they are the ones who have to scan the unique codes and check the codes against the National Databases connected to the EU HUB.
